What to expect at your first visit
We would like to thank you for choosing GO Orthodontics. This page has been designed especially for you to help get a better understanding of what will take place at your consultation appointment. We are very excited about meeting you! We look forward to working with you and helping you understand what orthodontics can do for you!
- The first visit is a consultation visit lasting approximately 1 to 1 ½ hours. It is designed to give you a thorough understanding of what to expect with braces, how long treatment will last if needed, and how much it will cost.
- Our receptionist will introduce you to the New Patient Coordinator. She is there to answer almost any question you may have and help refer to the doctor your needs and concerns. Depending upon which office you visit these are the New Patient Coordinators who will assist you.

- Upon arrival, please present your New Patient information, unless you submitted it online, along with your Insurance card (if available) to either the receptionist or new patient coordinator.
Along the way the rest rooms, tooth brush stations, and prize wall area (a must see) will be pointed out for your convenience.
- Next, you will be taken on a tour of the office to see:
- where the braces are placed and adjusted
- state of the art sterilization room
- photography and radiography studio
- consultation area
- The next step is to take records. These are the diagnostic tools, along with an examination by the doctor that will be needed to determine the type, length and cost of treatment. Records consist of Digital photographs, Digital X-rays (2 types) and Models when needed.
Step 1- Digital Photographs
A series of eight pictures will be taken using cheek retractors and mirrors. These pictures will then be printed out for you to take home! Taking pictures with cheek retractors looks something like you see below:

When all the photos have been taken they will look something like you see below:

Step 2: Dental Radiographs (X-Rays)
Two different X-rays are needed for the doctors to assess the overall health of the teeth, bones and joints. They will help in diagnosing any missing or impacted teeth, potentially troubling areas (like wisdom teeth or bone loss), along with the relative amount of growth remaining for that individual and severity of the problem. The X-ray’s that we take are digital to better reduce the amount of radiation exposure. If you have a copy of one from your dentist or orthodontist feel free to bring that along so that we can add it to your chart. Taking X-rays looks something like you see below:

The final x-rays look like this:
Panoramic
 |
Cephalometric

Step 3: (If needed)
The final step is to take impressions (or molds) of your teeth so that the doctors can have a better appreciation or understanding of what the problem is and how to best treat it. This is normally done at the following visit once and if you decide to have braces and only if the doctor feels it is needed. Impressions of your mouth look something like this:

- Once all the records are taken you will then sit down with the new patient coordinator and look them over. She will spend time with you listening to your needs and concerns and communicate these to the doctor so he has a better understanding of how we can help you.
- She will introduce you to the various types of braces available today which include all that you see below:

Once you have been fully informed, Dr. Gililland or Dr. O'Bannon will sit down with you and discuss the specifics of your treatment ranging from how long, how much, and when to start.

- Finally, the new patient coordinator will review the fee and help coordinate a payment schedule that is suitable to your budget. We have many different payment plans including some with no down payment to help tailor a plan you are comfortable with! We know how important this part is so please take the time to ask plenty of questions!
- If the doctor says the time is right to start and you are ready the new patient coordinator will schedule your appointment to begin your treatment! On some occasions we can even place the braces on the SAME DAY- if this interests you please let us know ahead of time so that we can reserve time in our schedule! This greatly helps reduce the amount of school and work missed!
- Once treatment begins and you are part of the GO Orthodontics Family you are ready to enjoy the many benefits and perks of the office. T-shirts are given to all patients at the time braces are placed with the design and color of your choice. See below:
